History of Myanmar Football
Football was first introduced in Myanmar before 1800. That was revealed in the "Myanmar and football"
by U Htein Lin (Banner Journal). It was spread all over the world, including Myanmar by the British merchants
and missions. ''Myanmar football teams federation'' was founded in 1895 and renamed to Burma Athletic Association (BAA) in 1898. Football competitions were held at the Maidan (Myoma) stadium and then at Aung San Stadium.
Football competitions were differentiated into first division of premier league in senior level and play off championship in junior level. In 1908, one more class in senior level was involved. That was second division. Relegation system began only at 1926. Cricket, hockey, tennis, badminton and track and field were along with football. "Myanmar Amateur football Association" was established in May17, 1947, that was named on Myanmar Football Federation in 1962. After 1964, senior and junior level competitions were reformed as first, second, third and fourth divisions. Current football competitions were leveled as premiership, first division, second division and third division since 1995-96 season.
