AFF Cup: Singapore With Good Goalkeeping Problem
Singapore boss Raddy Avramovic has a good problem heading into the 2008 AFF Suzuki Cup. Both goalkeepers –Lionel Lewis and Hassan Sunny – are in good form.
Lewis has been a mainstay between the posts in recent years but Hassan is making in presence felt. Both shotstoppers played in Singapore's recent 2-2 friendly draw with Vietnam.
Hassan, the gloveman for S-League Tampines Rovers, started that game and excelled. '
It's a good situation to have two goalkeepers making a strong case for themselves. At the end of the day, it will be a matter of who is in better form," Avramovic told the Strait Times.
Hassan is ready to take his chance and challenge his established rival.
"It's really up to me to make full use of this opportunity now," he said. "Even though I made my international debut in 2004, I'm not a regular starter. "It's been a long wait but that's the life of a goalkeeper."
It won't be easy as Lewis is not about to give up the gloves.
He said: 'I'm pleased with my form and will continue to work hard and impress the coach during training. Whoever Avramovic chooses, I will trust his decision."
Singapore kick off the AFF Cup on Friday against Cambodia in Jakarta.
