In the Thai capital, both sides had chances to take all three points but
were unable to break the deadlock.
Iranian defender Mageed Gholamnejhad hit the post with a long-range volley
after just 11 minutes and two minutes later Hossein Kaebi should have
scored.
Thailand had Team Melli on the back-foot for lengthy periods and Teerasil
Dangda was denied when through on goal by goalkeeper Mehdi Rahmati.
In the group’s other game, Singapore moved into second with a 2-1 over
Jordan.
Still smarting from their 6-0 defeat in Tehran, Singapore took the lead in
the 21st minutes through Agu Casmir.
Jordan were back on level terms just before the break as Hatem Agel scored
from the spot after a foul from Singapore skipper Noh Rahman.
Noh Alam Shah grabbed the winner for Singapore after 64 minutes.
Bahrain moved to the top of Group A in qualification for the 2011 Asian Cup
with a 1-0 win over Japan on Wednesday evening.
Salman Isa got the only goal of the game after 25 minutes to put the
hosts on six points from two games.
Japan have three after defeating Yemen 2-1 earlier in the month.
After a tight opening, Isa headed home from a Hussain Baba free-kick.
The win was no more than Bahrain deserved as Milan Macala’s men were on
top for most of the match against a Japan team without any
European-based stars.
The visitors created little and only really threatened in the closing
stages of the match.
Goalkeeper Sayed Mohammed Jaffar had little to do but did it well.
Elsewhere in the group, Yemen moved level on points with Japan after
defeating Hong Kong 1-0 thanks to a second half goal from substitute
Akram Al Selwi.
